Top 3 Accommodations in Havana, Cuba

There is a variety of accommodation choices when staying in Cuba. But two are most popular among tourists. You can book a hotel, stay in a private house called casa particular.

1. Casa particular

Our recommended choice is, of course, the casa particular. You will know real Cuba when you stay in the home of the local people. They will treat you like family and make sure your overall experience with the city or country will be the best possible. Sometimes they will invite you to join them for a walk around the town, a concert or dancing lessons. They will also show you the way to the best restaurants they visit only on special occasions.

Examples:

  • Casa de Sergio and Miriam – in the center of Old Havana (Havana Vieja) close to the main old square. The hosts are university educated and dedicated to visitors. They can arrange a transfer from the airport and to other Cuban cities, you would like to visit. Note that regional buses can cost a group of 4 people more than a private taxi, which is also a way more flexible mode of transport.

2. Hotels

There are some of the nicest hotels in Cuba. And they also have a high price tag, while others more affordable don’t offer so much to travelers. Hotels in resorts are normally 3- to 4-star buildings with pools and restaurants with access to the beach. Some people get stuck into their Varadero hotel and don’t get to know real Cuba.

Examples:

  • Hotel Nacional – this might be the best and most premium located hotel in Havana. Close to Malecon and City center.

3. Hostels

Hostels, as we know them from other countries, are a pretty new mode of accommodation in Cuba. They offer a joint kitchen and sometimes toilets. The visitors are more independent form house owners who give them keys and make sure the place is clean and has fresh supplies.

Example:

  • Hostal Brina – with gateway open to an Old Havana street. Clean and spacious.
